MY MOM....MY IDOL

Hi guys for all those who are going to read this would realize how special a mom is, but for me my mom is something more.. she is my "IDOL" because my mom has strived hard a lot from her childhood to motherhood. Her journey as a child till now has been a example for me and my brother. My mom was born in an Hindhu Bramin family on 21st March 1958 in Nagpur in Maharashtra with five sisters and two brothers. My grandfather was an employee in central railways and was struggling to meet both the ends apart from his work, he was also doing a extra job to satisfy the basic needs of the family. As my grandfather knew the importance of education he sent all his children to an english medium school by taking some loans ,as he could not afford.Apart from seven of them there was my mom's grandmother staying with them and she was an orthodox women there were some restrictions as to women not to study and only the sons should study but my grandparents did not listen to her. My mom was studying in 3rd class and there was severe winter and my mom could not afford a sweater and used to sit in that cold weather without uttering a word and her teacher saw this and bought an used sweater for her.My mother had only two pairs of clothes and so did the others. If it was torn,my grandmother would stitch it but could not buy a new pair of clothes. My mom used to wash the clothes and wash all utensils along with her siblings and by the time they used to sit for studying it would be around 10'o clock in the night. All of them used to take turns like four would study and rest four would sleep for some time for few hours and vice-versa. Now I and my brother don't even do a 0.1% of the work my mom did and we get whatever we ask for, from mobiles to playstations to the best clothes and many more as my parents don't want us to know what is poverty and its effects. Both my mom and dad worked very hard to earn a respectable position in the society. After her first phase of schooling was over the second phase started "College" my mom successfully completed her matriculation with flying colors and wanted to pursue her graduation i.e. B.Com but now my grandfather was not interested as he had other plans of getting his daughters married. But my mom and her sisters opposed and my grandmother was with them. So, my grandfather had no other choice bot to let them what my mom wished. So my mom did her graduation with a fair results and got second rank in all over India in economics My Family believes "LORD RHAGAVENDRA SWAMY" and my mom worships him very deeply with great belief and after her graduation was completed she thought of working than getting married and so my mom had to get the job on her own hard work.First she joined as a teacher in a primary school but she wasn't happy with the salary as she had to help her family. Then she learned short hand and worked for Oriental bank for two months as a temporary employee now she had gained experience in the banking field and applied for BANK OF BARODA where she worked for a long period of 27 years. Finally she retired as an Officer .My mom was the first person to work in her family as she started working at the age of 19.This is something great for me and my bro. My mom could not sit at home idle and wanted to work as she always wanted to keep herself active. Now she works as an assistant Manager in ICFAI university for the past 2 years. This is a whole new experience from the Bank but still my mom coped up with the new environment and has been working efficiently. Finally what everyone admires my mom is the "never say die " attitude and her hard working ability through which she has earned a lot of respect from everybody and what I learnt from her is education will help a man somewhere and somehow and not to neglect education.I wish to conclude by saying that "my idol ROCKS".

  1. It's really a very nice topic that u have brought on.A very glaring truth is that the amount of hard work we put is surely nothing in front of what our parents and forefathers have done.We might become engineers or doctors and have a great career but our contribution towards doing that is very less as maximum of it is being spoon fed to us by our parents .What they have done to stand on their own feet is truly commendable..Hats off to them all!

The green suitcase

"....while you are going to Pune take all your luggage in three bags, we have one bag, buy one more and the big green suitcase can hold most of your luggage", my dad told me this a week ago before i was going to pune to do my MBA. All this striked me one day in the third semester during the mid-terms as i was staring the green suitcase remembering about my parents, my brother, Hyderabad and how much i missed all of them. We purchased the suitcase while i was in my 9th grade may be January 2001 while my dad and mom planned for a vacation in Delhi and surroundings. My parents got their LTC and were very enthusiastic about the vacation. So a week before our travel, dad got the green suitcase, a big spacious one with wheels below and clips on the top and a locking system (which we never used till now). We were all geared up, when suddenly there was a major autorikshaw strike in Hyderabad and we had to catch the train early in the morning at 5:30. Finally on the day we got o...

A glimpse into my future

...........or atleast that's what I thought it was. It was again a dull Tuesday Morning and I was waiting to get X-rayed, I was getting a few tests done and one of the tests included this one. Just a few minutes ago I just had my blood samples collected in three different tubes at which time I asked the lady "Will it hurt a lot?" and I am very sure she laughed behind her surgical mask. After the blood samples, she pushed a small plastic container on the wooden desk towards me and asked me to get it filled with my watery waste and I promise there is nothing more humiliating than carrying the filled container all the way towards the end of hallway with people on either side. As I sat waiting to be called inside the X-ray Room, I heard a low dry cough and when I looked to my left there was an old man about 70 years or more, his skin was drooping, especially his cheeks. The drooping and the skin of his colour reminded me of a South Indian sweet dish. He was o...

Tuesdays...

"Many consider Tuesdays very unauspicious but to me, they were the most wonderful days in a week"- This was three years ago in my Engineering first year. Want to know why? coz i had my EDC Lab and someone very cute and pretty would sit next to me as my lab partner(..can't reveal her name). Hmm...as soon as Sunday would start three words would go round in my mind "day after tomorrow".After a long Monday(..i hate Mondays), Tuesdays would seem very short. Getting ready for college on the big day(every Tuesdays),I would start thinking about how to talk to her and make her smile. That day i wouldn't miss the college at any cost. Sitting in the bus i would be lost in thoughts, recollecting some funny quotes i would scribble in my lab notes trying to impress her. Entering into the class i would look for her and just her glance would make my day(..in fact, the whole week) with a big smile on my face i would go to the last bench and keep looking at her. ...
