A rainy day.....

"...guys lets get going its already late we might not get any cabs" saying this we left for the cabs and moved towards the cafeteria, i had a glass of juice and went out for the cab, the day was bright and sunny and little sweating. Waiting for the cab i was lost in thoughts about the embarrassing scene in the cafeteria with a girl early in the morning that day. Then i got into the cab along with my friend at 9:45 am or so. As soon as the cab moved a little further i was fast asleep and woke up near my house, i reached home and had a refreshing bath and was eating when I remembered my friend(Bhanu) was leaving for the USA for his MS that day. I finished my meal quickly and called Ravi about the gift which we had to buy for him(we already zeroed on a gift 2 weeks ago). Then I called up hemanth and asked him about the pickup time from his house. Initially, we planned to leave at 12 noon, but I had no sleep the previous night and so decided to sleep for at least 2 hours. Time passed and it was 3 in the afternoon, i was already late and so quickly i washed my face and changed clothes and called up hemanth to be ready by the time i reach his place.I rode of with my bike and still there was still no change in the weather, a little more hotter. Me and hemanth rode of to a place named Paradise(indeed a paradise for the victors) and called up Ravi, he was so asleep that he didn't even answer the call we tried and tried and at last he reached for the phone and answered, he said he'd be a little late as the water tanker had to come. By then it was 3:45 pm, and I and hemanth went out to our hang out spot "sherton" and was waiting for Ravi. Then Hemanth remembered he had to buy a silver chain, So we went to place and it was flooded with jewelry shops, the place had very narrow lanes and there were about 30-35 shops altogether, only two 2 wheelers could go side by side in that lane. My friend was asking about the chain while i was looking at all the people who came to buy jewellery, at that time one thing was running in my mind...people were wasting money on some useless yellow shining metal. But my words would be least cared, thinking this i noticed my friend selecting a thick silver chain for his "cross".By now it was 5:30 pm and the weather was a little bit cooler than before and there was cold breeze in the wind. As we moved out of the lane i got a call from Ravi that one our other friends was coming along with us too and started from his place. Then we moved to one of the famous watch shop in the city and were selecting a "fast track"(the gift) for Bhanu. There was no power in the whole area so we had some difficulty seeing the watches and the weather too was changing quickly and the sky turned little darker indicating us it was to late by now.Our other two friends soon reached the place and there was some confusion as to which watch would best suit our friend. Some suggested leather strap would suit him well while i was not agreeing to them and insisted a metal strap would look "cool".Finally we moved out of that shop and went to another shop near by and got into the confusion. This time the sales person acted sensibly and showed us some latest arrivals and diverted from the regular ones. All four were satisfied with a "metal strap watch"(finally my choice) which had the whole dial moving and a flash light within it,we were already late and it was 6:30 pm and it was still long way to Bhanu's house, we had two bikes and started with the watch wrapped in a shiny yellow cover with a sticker written "From your buddies with love".The bright sunshine was soon covered with dark clouds,it seemed as if the skies had a war between them. Riding on the bikes, we(me and hemanth) were stuck in a traffic jam( a daily affair at any place in Hyderabad but i still loved this awesome city). We got out of the jam and heading fast to the destination. Suddenly a heavy rain slashed and we were half drenched and we moved into a petrol bunk waited for 15 minutes or so and again left when the rain stopped.Again after about a 20 minute, the rain started and this time we had no place to cover ourselves it seemed that the rain was waiting for us to get completely drench and look clumsy. On the other side i was starving but had no time to sit and eat coz it was already late. We took chances and started as if we were challenging the rain. But after a little further we caught up with our other two friends and again waited for the rain to slow down a little bit. Finally, we reached Bhanu's place and it was packed with all his well-wishers(friends and relatives). Bikes were parked as if in "showroom".Greeting Bhanu we gave him the gift we purchased( the irony was he already had 3 more fast tracks) but lucky none of the other watches matched ours. There was a lot of fuss in his house and we decided not to make more fuss and sat down and started messaging as the next day would be Friendship day(3rd of Aug). The next day we would be charged a rupee(pretty expensive for a message) and so started greeting all our friends.By then i was into a chat with a girl about whom i have already written at the beginning. The chat lasted for about 20 minutes and by then my friend Ravi sent 134 messages to all his friends. Then we found time to talk to Bhanu who was getting ready his friends were helping him with luggage and weighing. Then there was cake cutting and some photo sessions and soon Bhanu broke into tears and hugged his parents(the first time I had seen him crying) we all were crying inside too. We left to another room and Bhanu soon came to us. There was only a few hours between us, soon he would go and return after 2 or more years.Me and Ravi broke inro tears and could not stop ourselves. We hugged each other and were crying and then hemanth consoled us. The weather too was on our side now crying along with us heavily seemed like it could also not control its outburst. We all rode off to the Airport in a big van.No one seemed interested to get into any fun. It was a long trip to the Airport, to relive us a little bit the driver played some songs but it was a movie from"Happy Days" and I was still more depressed. Finally we reached the entrance of the airport and it was a 6km ride to wade Bhanu goodbye. By then it was 12 midnight and friendship day started. Greeting each other with no interest we got down and waited for the flight details. The time had come and we had some last-minute goodbyes, hugs and he left. He'd return after 2 years till then we had to live with the sweet memories we spent for 4 years. It was sure hard to leave a best buddy. The time was 3:30am and the rain did not want to stop and we were drenched every time and got used to it. Finally, We rode off the airport carrying with us the memories and were eager for the two years to get completed soon. But 2 years is a long period and we have to wait but it wouldn't be the same, at least for the next two years.

The green suitcase

"....while you are going to Pune take all your luggage in three bags, we have one bag, buy one more and the big green suitcase can hold most of your luggage", my dad told me this a week ago before i was going to pune to do my MBA. All this striked me one day in the third semester during the mid-terms as i was staring the green suitcase remembering about my parents, my brother, Hyderabad and how much i missed all of them. We purchased the suitcase while i was in my 9th grade may be January 2001 while my dad and mom planned for a vacation in Delhi and surroundings. My parents got their LTC and were very enthusiastic about the vacation. So a week before our travel, dad got the green suitcase, a big spacious one with wheels below and clips on the top and a locking system (which we never used till now). We were all geared up, when suddenly there was a major autorikshaw strike in Hyderabad and we had to catch the train early in the morning at 5:30. Finally on the day we got o...

A glimpse into my future

...........or atleast that's what I thought it was. It was again a dull Tuesday Morning and I was waiting to get X-rayed, I was getting a few tests done and one of the tests included this one. Just a few minutes ago I just had my blood samples collected in three different tubes at which time I asked the lady "Will it hurt a lot?" and I am very sure she laughed behind her surgical mask. After the blood samples, she pushed a small plastic container on the wooden desk towards me and asked me to get it filled with my watery waste and I promise there is nothing more humiliating than carrying the filled container all the way towards the end of hallway with people on either side. As I sat waiting to be called inside the X-ray Room, I heard a low dry cough and when I looked to my left there was an old man about 70 years or more, his skin was drooping, especially his cheeks. The drooping and the skin of his colour reminded me of a South Indian sweet dish. He was o...

Tuesdays...

"Many consider Tuesdays very unauspicious but to me, they were the most wonderful days in a week"- This was three years ago in my Engineering first year. Want to know why? coz i had my EDC Lab and someone very cute and pretty would sit next to me as my lab partner(..can't reveal her name). Hmm...as soon as Sunday would start three words would go round in my mind "day after tomorrow".After a long Monday(..i hate Mondays), Tuesdays would seem very short. Getting ready for college on the big day(every Tuesdays),I would start thinking about how to talk to her and make her smile. That day i wouldn't miss the college at any cost. Sitting in the bus i would be lost in thoughts, recollecting some funny quotes i would scribble in my lab notes trying to impress her. Entering into the class i would look for her and just her glance would make my day(..in fact, the whole week) with a big smile on my face i would go to the last bench and keep looking at her. ...
